Plow trucks in overdrive

Henrietta, N.Y. One of the biggest jobs during a blizzard like the one on Wednesday is the cleanup.

Plow trucks have been working nonstop to keep up with the snow.

The Henrietta Department of Public Works said keeping up is the main challenge. The department said the trucks will easily use about 200 tons of salt for the roads.

"When it comes down at 1-2 inches per hour, we have to do what's called a main run continual, which is to keep emergency routes open, said Craig Eckert, commissioner of public works. Therefore, subdivisions and small streets will usually pay a little toll on that. They won't get cleaned quite as quickly."

The Town of Henrietta has 20 plows that go through the town in groups of two to five trucks.

By the end of the day, some of the drivers will have put in 20-plus hours of work.

Everybody has a stake into what they do here for the town, said Eckert. They live here in the town, and have family in town. So they want to also be proud for what they're offering as a service to their family members and the rest of their residents."

Eckert said the plow trucks will be out till at least midnight. Depending on snowfall and road conditions, they'll pick up right where they left off around 3 a.m. Thursday.
