Lilac Festival underway

Rochester, N.Y. The 2014 Lilac Festival is up and running at Highland Park and this year included a twist to the regular festivities.

Festival organizers are attempting to beat the Guinness World Record for largest human flower. The record is currently held by a town in England.

The number festival fans have to beat is 2250.

There are a few rules to breaking a world record, according to the Guinness world record representative.

The human flower must be three colors and must be created in an enclosed space.

The Rochester version is green, pink and purple. Participants are also getting numbered wristbands when they enter the flower building area.

Its a beautiful day after a long cold winter. We just thought it would be a fun way to see a new part of the state and just be a part of something fun, said Kacey Blaney, who came all the way from Rome to participate.

Lilac Festival organizers also commented on the state of the real lilacs and said that good weather is a huge plus for the flowers, which could be fully out next week if the weather stays warm.
