Rochester, NY -  A Pittsford native has been named music director for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.

The announcement was made Tuesday morning at Rochester City Hall.

Ward Stare, 31, was born and raised in Pittsford.

He began studying trombone when he was nine and was accepted into the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra at age 11.

He graduated early from Pittsford Mendon High School in order to study trombone at the Juilliard School in Manhattan.

Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren said the city is excited about this new chapter, "As the City of the Arts, we are proud of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra's presence in the community. I would like to sincerely congratulate Ward Stare and the RPO."

Stare will begin his four year appointment with the RPO September 1.
