Death of NYC college student in Pa. ruled homicide

Wilkes Barre, Pa. (AP) - A Pennsylvania coroner says the death of a New York City college student during an apparent fraternity ritual was a homicide.

The Luzerne County coroner's office said Friday the Dec. 8 death of Chun "Michael" Deng was a homicide. It referred all other inquiries to police.

Monroe County District Attorney David Christine has said he plans to file criminal charges in the Baruch College freshman's death.

About 30 Pi Delta Psi members spent that weekend at a home in Tunkhannock Township, Pa., about 100 miles west of New York City in the Pocono Mountains.

Authorities allege that Deng sustained a fatal brain injury during an initiation ritual in the snow with three other pledges.

Baruch representatives did not immediately respond to messages.
