Runners thank WWII vet during race

San Jose, Calif. -- Runners in a Bay Area charity race took time before the event was finished Sunday to thank a former serviceman.

World War II veteran Joe Bell, 95, stood outside his home, dressed in his military uniform, during the 8-kilometer race to cheer runners on.

Several runners ran onto the sidewalk to thank Bells hand and thank him for his service.

The race benefitted the foundation for fallen Army Ranger Pat Tillman, a San Jose native killed in Afghanistan in 2004, two years after retiring from his NFL career to enlist in the Army following the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
