Air search for missing flight called off

Canberra, Australia -- Australian officials have called off the air search efforts for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 for now.

They said side-scan sonar equipment is now needed after a U.S. underwater robot failed to pick up anything in an area where pings believed to be from the missing planes black box were last detected.

Crews said they are baffled as to how the jetliner disappeared without a trace March 8.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott said the underwater hunt for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 may take up to eight more months to thoroughly search.
