Highly sought-after teen picks Yale
Mastic Beach, N.Y. (ABC) -- A teenager who had enticing offers from all eight Ivy League schools said Wednesday he will attend Yale in the fall.
With the fanfare that is usually reserved for elite athletes announcing their college picks, Kwasi Enin announced his decision at a news conference in the gymnasium at William Floyd High School in Mastic Beach, N.Y.
Call him the LeBron James of academia.
As a sought-after free agent, James famously stretched out his announcement in a television special, "The Decision," before he announced at the end that he was taking his talents to the Miami Heat in 2010.
What James and other elite athletes have done in sports, Enin has achieved in the classroom. He scored a 2,250 out of 2,400 on the SAT, placing him in the 99th percentile for all students taking the exam. He also ranks in the top 2 percent of his class.
Despite his success, Enin said never in his wildest dreams did he think he would get into Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, Pennsylvania and Yale.
Enin, who is also a violinist, was accepted to Princeton in December and then heard from the remaining seven schools March 27.
Enin has said he wants to follow in the steps of his parents, both immigrants from Ghana, and study medicine.
