Stabbing suspect to be charged as adult

Murrysville, Pa. (AP) -- Authorities said a high school student accused of stabbing 22 people at his suburban Pittsburgh school will be prosecuted as an adult.

Authorities accused Alex Hribal, 16, of attacking 21 students and a security guard with two kitchen knives Wednesday morning at Franklin Regional High School. At least five students were critically wounded.

Hribal has been charged with four counts of attempted homicide and 21 counts of aggravated assault.

Witnesses said Hribal had a "blank expression" and apparently chose victims at random in a hallway.

Officials said the attack might have been even worse if an assistant principal hadn't tackled the teen.

The Murrysville police chief said investigators are checking reports of a threatening phone call Tuesday night between Hribal and another student.
