Acrobat's condition improves as circus goes on

Hartford, Conn. (AP) -- A second acrobat injured in an accident at a Rhode Island performance of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus has been upgraded to fair condition.

Rhode Island Hospital says that Stefany Neves was upgraded to fair condition Thursday. Two others remain in serious condition, while three have requested that information on their conditions not be released.

The circus opens in Hartford Thursday night and runs through the weekend. The "human chandelier" stunt, in which performers hang by their hair from a suspended apparatus, won't be performed.

Feld Entertainment spokesman Stephen Payne says that federal health and safety inspectors and circus officials do not have a definitive cause for the accident on Sunday that sent eight acrobats plummeting to the ground.
