70 people arrested for child porn

New York (CNN/ABC) - A Rabbi, a police officer, a paramedic and a Boy Scout leader were among more than 70 people arrested on child porn charges, according to a U.S. law enforcement officer.  Officials are expected to announce a major child porn bust that was part of a month-long investigation by the Department of Homeland Security and New York authorities.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a law enforcement source said one suspect used Skype to capture children posing naked on video chat.  Another suspect allegedly made more than 50 trips to the Dominican Republic to engage in sex with minors.

The undercover investigation that led to the arrests of the individuals used filters to search peer-to-peer file sharing networks for people who possessed, produced or distributed pornographic photos or videos of children, sources said. According to court documents, Aaron Young, a paramedic with the New York Fire Department, was among those arrested. He is charged with viewing sexually explicit images of children as young as 2 years old, according to court papers.

While the majority of the arrests were made in New York City and its surrounding suburbs, more arrests are expected as agents trace the data on hard drives that were seized in the bust. In all, thousands of sexual images of children were sent and received at no charge, a law enforcement official said.

Approximately one-third of the suspects are still in custody, while the others were released on as little as $30,000 bond to as much as $500,000 bond. More details are expected at a news conference this afternoon.
