Update: Tracks Clear After Train Derailment In Wheatland

Wheatland, N.Y. - The railroad tracks are now clear following the train derailment in Wheatland.

On Monday, twenty cars hauling road salt derailed, spilling five to ten tons of road salt.

According to the Department of Environmental Conservation, all but three cars have been removed from the accident site and staged at a nearby location.

The hopper cars have been secured and covered with tarps to prevent any salt discharge or stormwater runoff from the rains.

The DEC also said salt and impacted soil will be hauled away for disposal but there was no impact to Oatka Creek
