Pol floats idea of naming new NY bridge for Seeger
Greenburgh, N.Y. (AP) - A new bridge being built over the Hudson River could be named for the activist folk singer Pete Seeger.
Seeger died Monday at 94.
Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner noted that Seeger fought to save the river from pollution. He said naming the bridge for Seeger would inspire people who travel across it to keep the river clean.
The bridge is being built to replace the current Tappan Zee Bridge between Westchester and Rockland counties. It is scheduled to open in 2018.
Feiner said he's sending his suggestion to Gov. Andrew Cuomo and members of the state Legislature.
