Nik Wallenda details New York fair walk plans

Hamburg, N.Y. (AP) -- Daredevil Nik Wallenda is planning to walk a tightrope over a western New York fair where he performed as a 13-year-old.

Wallenda was at the site of the Erie County Fair near Buffalo Thursday to announce details of his plans.

He says the August 14 walk will be his longest of 2014, covering 1,400 feet. That's almost double the typical walk length. He'll be 125 feet in the air on a wire measuring 5/8 of an inch in diameter, about the size of a nickel.

Wallenda, who lives in Florida, performed at the Erie County Fair with his high-flying family when he was 13 years old in the early 1990s.
