Extreme heat continues

Monroe County, N.Y. Its the dog days of summer, but some dogs have beating the heat figured out - thanks to thoughtful owners.

Carter and I spend a lot of time in the dog park, said Christina Cornwell who has many ways of keeping her dog, Carter, cool, he likes to swim in the pond there and keeping him inside whenever I can, lots of water, lots of ice cubes.

Across town at Ferrels Garage on University Ave. mechanics work in bays without air conditioning.

What do we do to stay cool? Keep the fans going, that's about it, said garage owner Paul Ferrel, maybe sometimes a wet towel around the neck.

In Greece, homeowners were cleaning up storm debris less than 24-hours after strong winds and heavy rains downed trees and power lines.

We sat in the house with candles and it was very muggy, said Don Bowen, when asked what he did without power Thursday night. [It was] very hot we left the windows open to get a breeze and that helped a bit."

Around the corner, Donald Plummer kept his home closed up when he lost power Thursday.

It kept the cool air inside and it cooled down at night so it wasn't too bad, said Plummer.

Keeping doors and windows closed during the hottest part of the day is a way to conserve energy, according to RG&E.

An RG&E spokesperson says they haven't had any problems with their system because of the heat this week.
