Irondequoit projects snarl traffic

Irondequoit, N.Y. Its getting tougher to get around Irondequoit. Several construction projects are underway in major arteries of the town.

Two of them are within two miles of each other. Titus Avenue is lined with orange traffic barrels and packed with heavy construction equipment. Construction work along Titus Avenue is tied to the I-Square redevelopment project.

Workers are rebuilding sidewalks. The work has forced drivers to navigate through a temporary lane closure on the eastbound side of the road, according to developer Mike Nolan.

Itll be quick, were working as fast as we can, said Nolan. It will certainly be worth the slowdown.

A new intersection is being built in the area of Union Park, that will mean more construction through the fall.

Meanwhile, less than two miles from Titus Ave, a much larger project is underway on East Ridge Road.

New curbs, sidewalks and road rehabilitation are among a bevy of changes for sections of East Ridge Road between Hudson Road and Carter Road, Carter to Portland and Portland to Goodman, said Terrence Rice, Director of Transportation for Monroe County.

The county project is in its second years and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
