Search Continues For Missing Sailor In Lake Ontario

Sodus Point, N.Y. – The United States Coast Guard continued to search Tuesday, for 53-year-old Scott French of Penfield.

French called his wife Saturday morning and left her a message saying it was a perfect day for sailing and not to worry.

French left from Katlynn Marine in Sodus Point around 9a.m. Saturday.

Hours later, his 32-foot sailboat “Persnickety” was found directly north of Sodus Point in Pointe Petre, Ontario.

“The boat is in fine shape, it's a nice boat,” said the General Manager of Katlynn Marine, Debbie Agostinelli, “and so something odd definitely happened.”

The boat was towed back to Katlynn Marine from Canada on Monday.

“He didn't leave us a float plan he just kind of did his own thing,” said Agostinelli.

Not leaving a float plan wasn’t out of the ordinary for French.

According to his family he usually sails 10-15 miles off shore and then turns around.

French typically doesn’t sail to the Canadian side of Lake Ontario.

French is an avid sailor, according to family his father taught him to sail at a young age.
