Joseph Hofstetter Returns To The Job

Rochester, N.Y. – After months of treatment, one of the West Webster volunteer firefighters ambushed on Christmas Eve returned to work as a Rochester firefighter Tuesday.

Joseph Hofstetter was one of the four firefighters shot by William Spengler as they responded to a house fire on Lake Road.

Two of those firefighters, Michael Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczokwa, were killed.
Hofstetter was shot in the pelvis, and spent months in physical therapy. He returned to work at Engine Two Tuesday morning.

“I feel very lucky and fortunate to be here,” Hofstetter said as he addressed the new media. “This is the only job I’ve ever wanted, and my goal from the beginning was to get back to work.

“I’m just really glad to be here and relieved, and I’m looking forward to getting back to work.”
