Assemblyman Nojay issues statement on Wheatland accident

Albany, N.Y.-- Assemblyman Bill Nojay shared his thoughts on the Wheatland deadly accident Friday.

Taylor Binnert, 21, and Chris Peterson, 20, both died when the car Binnert was driving was broadsided by a tractor trailer on Rt. 36 and North Road in Wheatland.

Investigators with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office believe Binnert entered the intersection not knowing that it was not a four-way stop.

Emily Peterson, Michela Murphy and Joanne Kruchten were passengers in the backseat.

Friday Assemblyman Nojay released a statement that said, “Although there is nothing we can do to change what has happened, we can devote ourselves to understanding what went wrong and doing everything possible to make our roads safer. I will be working with local officials and state DOT engineers to make sure that happens. Let us pray for the recovery of those injured and the memories of those departed.”

All the victims were Caledonia natives and graduates of Caledonia-Mumford High School.
