Hostages safe after Geneva St. Standoff

Rochester, N.Y. - It all began around 9:30 Monday night when police received a 911 call regarding two people with guns who broke into a home on Geneva Street.

Rochester police say the suspects threatened all three people inside with guns - one knocking a 28-year-old man unconscious.

One person was able to escape and call 911.

Negotiators tried to coax the suspects out of the house, but they did not initially respond.

After about four hours one of the suspects and the two remaining hostages came out of the home.

Police had to go inside and search the home before they were able to take the other suspect into custody.

Michael Maddox, 36, Rochester was arrested and cahrged with third-degree assault and false personation.

An investigation later revealed Maddox was allowed into the house, which led to an argument over some owed property.

The incident startled some neighbors.

"People on the street were notified of the event through a notification system that we have and we asked them to just stay in place," said Rochester Police Captain John Corbelli.

All three hostages are said to be doing fine--no injuries--just shaken up.

No guns were found during the subsequent search of the house.
