Local Purple Heart recipient returns home

Rochester, N.Y. Right around Thanksgiving last year, Afghanistan became Sgt. Isaak Mosers home.

The Hilton High School graduate had enlisted in the Army at 23.

He was doing well until I received a phone call at work in March, Mosers mother, Bernadette Sage, said.

On March 11 of this year, a man dressed as an Afghan National Security Forces officer opened fire on American soldiers.

The shooter killed two of Mosers friends, including Staff Sgt. Rex Schad.

The best leader Ive ever come in contact with I love the guy and I miss him dearly, Moser said.

Moser was hit in his trigger finger, an injury that pulled him from combat, put him in the hospital and earned him a Purple Heart.

Tuesday, he returned to Rochester.

His girlfriend, mother, other family members and veterans waited for him at the airport.

This means a lot to me, Moser said.

He plans on heading back to work next month adding he would jump at the chance to rejoin his friends in Afghanistan.
