New scam targets seniors

Albany, N.Y. – A new scam is targeting senior citizens.

New York Department of State’s Division of Consumer Protection says people are posing as representatives for companies that provide medical alert devices.

The scammers are calling seniors and asking for personal information, such as social security numbers and credit card information.

They promise free medical equipment in return.

The state says legitimate medical alert companies will never make an unsolicited call and ask for personal information.
