Weekend-long power outages for thousands
Rochester, N.Y. – Rochester Gas and Electric customers are reporting that they’re without power since severe thunderstorms Friday evening.
As of Sunday morning, thousands of residents are still in the dark.
Over 2,000 Wayne County customers and 400 in Monroe County are still without power.
At the outage's peak, approximately 10,000 customers were without power. As of late Saturday night, 2,444 in Wayne County were in the dark, with outages in Monroe County dwindling, but very slowly.
Irondequoit has the highest number out with 232, followed by the City of Rochester with 145. Greece and Webster both have about 90 without power.
Paul Mara of Webster said his neighborhood isn't expected to get power back until Sunday night.
"The generator's been on since 7:30 last night," he said Saturday afternoon. "Power went out about 7 or so, so it's been going ever since. I'm about to go out and get some more fuel to refuel it and make sure we have enough to run through tomorrow because they're saying we're not supposed to get power back until 11:00 tomorrow night."
Mara is right. RG&E touts late Sunday night, around 11, as the estimated restoration time.
RG&E encourages customers to report a power outage at 1-800-743-1701.
