Suspect in police shooting released from hospital, moved to jail

Rochester, N.Y. – The suspect in a shooting that injured a Rochester police officer was released from prison and moved to jail last week.

Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies said Monday that Ralph Strong, of Rochester, was discharged from Strong Memorial Hospital and moved to Monroe County Jail on July 18.

Strong was a suspect in two recent homicides when Rochester police officers attempted to pull over his vehicle earlier this month.

Police said Strong fled from one car stop, only to be located again in the area of Goodman and Norton Streets. There, investigators said that Strong engaged gunfire with officers, shooting a sergeant twice.

Officers said Strong fled again, and was located several blocks away, where he engaged police in another shootout. He was shot five times in that exchange.
