Fringe Festival returning in September
Rochester, N.Y.- New details were released Wednesday about the upcoming First Niagara Rochester Fringe Festival.
The festival, which will double to ten days, will be held September 19-28.
There will be more than 360 performances in 28 venues.
More than 120 of the performances are free this year.
This year’s multi-arts festival has divided its shows into seven genres: Children’s, Comedy, Cross-Genre, Dance, Music, Performance Art, Spoken Word, Theatre, and Visual Arts.
Wednesday, organizers announced two new shows which will take place in the Magic Crystal Spiegeltent, on the corner of East Main and Gibbs Streets: Cirque du Fringe and Silent Disco at the Fringe.
“Cirque du Fringe is a sassy, sexy, funny show created especially for us in Orlando, Florida,” said Fringe Producer Erica Fee. “This world-premiere variety production will amaze and amuse with 11 different national acts – from aerial silks, to magic, to strength and balance – every evening of Fringe, as well as for three family-friendly shows during the day.”
“What is Silent Disco? Imagine stepping into a party full of dancing people, but you don’t hear a sound – until you slip on your headphones,” Fee explained. “The two-channel wireless audio system with live dueling deejays lets you switch up your music at the touch of a button. It’s a unique and entertaining experience – especially inside the amazing Spiegeltent!”
The Magic Crystal Spiegeltent will be the 2013 Fringe Hub. The venue is made from oak, velvet, mirrors and stained glass. It will also have an outdoor wine and beer lounge as well as food trucks, a performance stage, info booth, merchandise tent, restrooms and Spiegeltent box office.
San Francisco vertical dance company BANDALOOP will return for two free performances on the 21-story One HSBC Plaza on Friday, September 20 and Saturday, September 21.
Free entertainment at Manhattan Square Park will take place surrounding BANDALOOP's performances
