Playing the Original Oak Hill course
University of Rochester, N.Y. -- Next week the best golfers in the world will play Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford.
Not many will know that 100 years ago the Original Oak Hill Country Club sat on the current site of University of Rochesters River Campus.
In the early 1920s the University was looking to expand and George Eastman agreed to help finance that expansion. In exchange for the land that Oak Hill Country Club currently occupied, the University bought more than 350 acres in Pittsford where two Oak Hill courses were build and designed by Donald Ross.
Part of that arrangement included an agreement to let the University of Rochesters golf team host visiting teams at the Oak Hill course in Pittsford.
It is an agreement that continues today with Yellowjackets Head Golf Coach Dan Wesley and his team. Coach Wesley joined 13WHAMs Sean Carroll in a friendly game, and tour, of the Original Oak Hill Course with plenty of obstacles in the fairway.
