Rare glimpse at million-dollar diamonds

Rochester, N.Y. – It was a rare chance Wednesday night to hold millions of dollars-worth of  rough uncut diamonds at Cornell's Jewelers.

Only 75 people in the U.S. have had the opportunity to look at and touch these diamonds.

Seven local couples learned how diamonds are sorted, cut, and graded.

They also got a chance to see and feel a $2 million rough diamond.

Cornell's Jewelers CEO David Cornell explained that the event was not about selling.

“This is an experience for people who appreciate diamonds, like to collect diamonds,” Cornell said.  “It gives them an appreciation of what the supply chain is like from start to finish.”

The event was put on by Forevermark, an extended brand of De Beers.  The masterclass is only offered to select jewelry stores around the world.
