One injured in asphalt plant explosion

Delevan, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a worker has been injured in an explosion at an asphalt south of Buffalo.

Fire officials in Buffalo said that one worker was injured when the blast occurred around 6:30 a.m. Friday at the Gernatt Asphalt Products plant in the Cattaraugus County village of Delevan, 35 miles southeast of Buffalo.

Delevan Fire Chief Jeff Holmes says the blast happened as workers were getting ready to make blacktop. He says one was taken to a Buffalo hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

State police are at the scene but have released no details. A company official says he can't comment yet.

Gernatt operates more than a dozen plants and excavation sites that supply sand, gravel and other construction materials in western New York and northwestern Pennsylvania.
