Suspected burglar picks wrong home

Batavia, N.Y. - New York State police have arrested a man caught burglarizing the home of an off-duty officer in Batavia.

Police said Aaron Clark, 24, went around to houses on South Bennett Heights before 2 p.m. Saturday saying he needed gas for his car.

When he was seen breaking into the officer's home, he ran off into a corn field.

He was later arrested and charged with robbery, criminal possession of stolen property and obstructing governmental administration.

New York State Police Sgt. Mark Dischner offered advice for people who might come across a similar suspicious situation.

The bottom line is be vigilant, he said. Lock your doors at all times. Even if you live in the best of neighborhoods, you don't know where these people come from to prey on the innocent, and keep your home secure."

Clark was already on parole for robbery.

State police are continuing to investigate the possibility of other burglaries.
