Woman pleads guilty to providing weed to inmate

Rochester, N.Y. – A Rochester woman pleaded guilty to providing weed to an inmate at a federal correctional facility.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Shanna Nix, 24, was visiting a friend at the McKean Federal Correctional Institution in Bradford, Pennsylvania when she was observed on surveillance footage placing four balloons filled with pot into a bag of food she was sharing with an inmate.

Officers intercepted balloons before the inmate ingested them.

Nix was indicted in Pennsylvania, but the case was transferred to New York.

Nix faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. She’ll be sentenced in November before Judge Geraci.
