Mayor Richards gets endorsement from city fire, police unions
Rochester, N.Y.- Rochesters mayor received a big endorsement Wednesday in his bid for reelection.
Mayor Tom Richards campaign received support from the Rochester Police Locust Club; the Rochester Firefighters Association Local 1071, the City Employees Union, the City libraries staff and the City School District support staff.
The challenges faced by Upstate cities have been well-documented, and are no different here in Rochester. However, I am confident that we have maintained more solid fiscal footing than others, thanks partially to our union workforce, Richards said. With their cooperation, we have not had to cut back on the level of service that residents have come to expect from their government, something very important to preserving quality of life in Rochester.
City council president and Richards opponent in the race for mayor, Lovely Warren, said in a statement, From the beginning of my campaign, I predicted that Tom Richards would be the candidate of the special interests, and that prediction has come true. He has taken endorsements and their money. My loyalties and my concerns are first and foremost with the average people of Rochester -- the voters -- who are struggling to make a good life for themselves and their families every single day. The Mayor and I simply have different priorities.
