Possible casino brings mixed feelings
Henrietta, N.Y. The Seneca Nation of Indians announced Tuesday that the Nation of Seneca Gaming Corporation is working with Flaum Rochester, LLC to develop a casino in the Town of Henrietta.
People in the community are mixed on the idea.
This is a town for education, said Sankara Devarakonda, who doesnt welcome the idea of a casino in the area. With all the colleges and universities around I think the casino is going to temp a large chunk of students into something that is not main stream and is definitely not good for them.
Ive never seen a thing where as it [a casino] came in the whole level of the economy rose, said Mike DeWoody. I think it gives a temporary fix that people think is good, but Ive never seen it really mount to any good at all so I really dont support it.
Others welcome the idea.
It will help people spend money in town and bring some people to spend overnights, said Ed Doody. I think it will be a good thing overall, keep the cash flowing around Rochester.
I think its a good idea, said Andebrhan Haile. Start generating business here, we have a lot of unemployment, kids have graduated have no jobs because business is down so maybe create jobs, so I think its a good idea.
The deal still needs state and local approval.
And its likely it will need federal approval as well.
