Kids tee off during free golf lessons

Pittsford, N.Y. The pros will be hitting the links at Oak Hill for PGA Championship practice Monday, but Sunday some potential future pros got to take some swings.

Western New York PGA held free golf lessons for kids at Carpenter Park as part of the Get Golf Ready program.

More than 300 kids got to take as many turns as they wanted at several hitting stations, some using inflatable animals as targets.

Joe Bertino, executive director of Western New York PGA, said its important to reach out to the next generation of golfers at a young age.

Really, the purpose was to leave something lasting behind as the championship comes to town and then leaves, he said. We're really trying to have our instructors, who are key in influencing the game and producing new golfers, give them a nice day here to give them some introductory lessons and the game that we all love so much."
