Truck driver crashes into bakery, charged with DWI
Greece, N.Y. A truck driver is charged with drunk driving after crashing into a Greece bakery Thursday morning.
The accident happened just before 8 a.m. Thursday at Stone Ridge Plaza.
Police said Timothy Hicks, 29, of Paradise, Texas, was traveling west on West Ridge Road in a box truck, when he lost control and sideswiped a car that was in the lane next to him. He tried to wrestle control of the car for 100 yards, jumped a curb, knocked over a fire hydrant, and crashed into the front of Gruttadauria's Bakery.
Hicks was charged with D.W.I.
Police said Hicks told officers he worked the night shift and had some alcoholic drinks on his lunch hour.
He is being held pending an arraignment.
A woman inside the car that was hit suffered minor injuries.
Workers at the bakery said this accident could have been much worse if it had happened fifteen minutes later when people would have been inside the shop.
