Man arrested after alleged theft and foot chase

Gates, N.Y. A Palmyra was arrested for petit larceny, resisting arrest, and assault after allegedly stealing from a Walmart store and hitting a police officer.

Adalberto Alers Jr., 25, is accused of stealing $100 worth of items around 3:00 a.m. Wednesday from the Walmart at 2150 Chili Ave.  

Police said Alers fled the scene in a vehicle which was later spotted and pulled over on Chili Avenue. Alers, a passenger in the vehicle at the time, allegedly fled the vehicle on foot.  An officer chased after him, taking him into custody.

During the arrest, Alers allegedly struck the officer in the left eye, causing a cut and swelling.

Alers was arraigned and remanded to the Monroe County Jail on $20,00 cash or $50,000 bond.

The driver of the vehicle was not charged.
