Sergeant stops Henrietta robbery in progress

Henrietta, N.Y. - A sergeant with the Monroe County Sheriff's department stopped an armed robbery in progress Friday.

Around 1 p.m., a man armed with a knife was trying to rob the Express Mart on East Henrietta Road in Henrietta.

Sgt. Robert Murphy happened to be waiting at a traffic light across from the store at the same time. Following a 911 call, Murphy pulled into the parking lot, spoke to witnesses standing outside, got a description of the suspect, then went into the store and ordered the suspect to the ground.

Upon seeing the sergeant, the suspect immediately put down his knife and was taken into custody.

The suspect's name was not released. No one inside the store was hurt.
