17 dead in Egypt clashes
CAIRO (AP) - It's not just the security forces that have been doing battle with supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood today in the streets of Cairo.
Local residents who were opposed to today's protest by the Brotherhood took up arms and set up checkpoints throughout the capital, and clashes erupted as police fired tear gas.
At least 17 people have been killed in the latest fighting.
Tens of thousands of Muslim Brotherhood backers took to the streets today across Egypt. They were responding to the Brotherhood's call for protests following the deaths of 638 people Wednesday when security officials raided two sit-in protests.
