Widower, 96, writes song for wife
Peoria, Illinois - An unlikely entry into a song writing contest became a beautiful tribute to a widower's wife.
Fred Atobaugh, 96, couldn't sing or play an instrument but he could write about his wife of 73 years - Lorraine.
"After she passed away, I was sittin in the front room one evening by myself and it just came right to me almost, and I just kept hummin' it, Atobaugh said. And I started writing it, and it seemed like it just fit her."
He mailed the lyrics with a letter to the contest.
It did not meet the criteria for the contest, but the studio behind the project was touched by Fred's devotion. They took his lyrics and set them to music and then had the song professionally recorded for him.
The song is called "Oh, Sweet Lorraine" and is now available on iTunes.
