Rochester City Council responds to RPD video

Rochester, N.Y. - The Rochester City Council released a statement Friday in regards to an incident caught of video showing Rochester Police officers hitting a woman while trying to arrest her.

The statement reads:

"As the Rochester City Council, we ask that the community reserve judgment on the incident involving Brenda Hardaway, Romengeno Hardaway and the Rochester Police Department Officers responding to the call on August 27th at Seyle Terrace until all the facts have been ascertained and a thorough investigation is conducted, both internally by the RPD's Professional Standards Section and the Civilian Review Board.

As Councilmembers we are committed to ensuring that all members of our community are treated with compassion and respect, which includes our residents, visitors and the men and women who work for the City of Rochester. We offer our full support in any way that can be helpful in order to ensure that a timely, fair and comprehensive review takes place regarding the incident in question."
