Kent driver jumped guard rail, rolled down hill

Carlton, N.Y. An Orleans County woman was trapped in her vehicle for more than an hour following an alcohol-related incident Saturday evening.

The Orleans County Sheriffs Office responded to a car accident that occurred around 9:30 p.m. near 1400 Oak Orchard River Road in Carlton.

When authorities arrived on scene they found that the car had apparently missed a curve in the road, crossed the center line and jumped a guard rail. The vehicle rolled roughly 100 feet down a steep hill.

The driver, Sandra Flanagan, of Kent, was trapped in the vehicle for more than an hour before firefighters were able to get her out. Flanagan was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital by Mercy Flight.

Police said alcohol and unsafe speed were a factor and charges are pending.
