Mixed reviews for new county fair

Ogden, N.Y. — If you visited the new Monroe County Fair Thursday you saw plenty of animals, but not many other people.

“I like seeing the animals, I also like the fact I’m not fighting the crowds,” said Tanya Conley of Fairport.

Fair organizer and county legislator Robert Colby called it a “soft launch.” The fair had been located in Henrietta at the Dome Arena site, before being moved to Ogden’s Northampton Park, Thursday.

“In Henrietta it was more commercial if you will, they had the midway, all the carnival rides,” said David Thompson.

Fair organizers planned a smaller fair focused on children and agriculture.

“Obviously if you’re paying seven dollars a person to get in now, it’s not worth it,” said David Thompson of Spencerport.

The fair is free for children under twelve years of age.

It runs through Sunday.
