Two fires, two days, same street

Rochester, N.Y. - For the second time in as many days, the Rochester Fire Department is investigating a fire on Sherer Street.

Crews responded to a vacant building around 2 p.m. Saturday, encountering heavy smoke when they arrived at the location.

Deputy Fire Chief George Peterson, Jr. said crews found burning rubbish, speculating that the fire could have resulted from squatters or homeless individuals.

Early Friday morning, fire crews battled another vacant building fire on Sherer Street. Peterson said he could think of more than ten fires on the street over the years, but said it was too soon to call Saturday's fire suspicious.
