Webster starts school early, full day Kindergarten

Webster, N.Y.- Webster is starting the earliest it has in at least 18 years.

Among new things for the district this fall-- full-day kindergarten.

That requires some getting used to for parents and kids. To help ease families into the routine, the school held an orientation session so parents could ask questions and kids could meet their teachers and maybe make a friend or two.

A longer day means more time for kids in class. Teachers say this will help everyone to meet common core standards.

Parents seem confident their kids can handle it.  "I think there'll be so much information for them to learnand I think they're ready for it, said Jessica Salamone, who has two daughters going into kindergarten. I think a full day couldn't have come at a better time, (sending two of them at the same time, obviously) but I think it will give them a broader experience."

As the new school year begins - we'll have live back to school coverage all week long on 13WHAM News this morning starting at 5 a.m.

We'll keep you informed about the changes happening at schools across the area.
