Man steals $59K in sales tax, steals more while on probation

Hilton, N.Y. - A man already on probation for stealing $59,000 in sales tax was sentenced Friday for stealing thousands of dollars more while on probation.

James Inzinga, 57, was sentenced to one year in jail after he stole more than $18,000 in sales tax while on probation for stealing $59,000 in sales tax.

Inzinga pledead guilty in 2011 to 32 counts related to stealing $59,000 in sales tax from December 2004 to February 2006. He collected the funds from customers of Cristo Collision, a car repair shop in Rochester, but failed to remit them to the state as required by law.

He was sentenced to 15 weekends in jail and five years probation in addition to making restitution and leading a law-abiding life.

The Tax Departments Criminal Investigations Division did a follow-up investigation and discovered Inzinga continued to steal from his customers and the state during his first year on probation.

Inzingas probation was then revoked and he was sentenced to one year in prison.
