College rankings and costs, new report
U.S.A. - Several local colleges rank high in U.S. News and World Report's annual ratings.
The University of Rochester ranked 32nd in the national category-- up one spot from last year.
St. John Fisher College ranked 142nd on the same list--up from 152 last year.
Princeton topped that category.
In the north regional category, RIT held steady at 7th again this year.
SUNY Geneseo slid five spots to 15th.
Nazareth jumped six to 27th.
SUNY Brockport jumped 14 spots to 54th.
Roberts Wesleyan fell from 47 to number 74 this year.
Researchers factored in graduation rates, student selectivity and reputation in their ratings.
The report also paints a new picture of college costs.
Don't let the price tags for Harvard and Yale scare you, researchers say. Both ranked high on the "Best Value" list because financial aid and alumni who fund their alma mater's investment portfolios help off-set student debt.
The U of R ranked 28th on that list.
