Miss America responds to racist tweets

Cyberspace The new Miss America says she wont let negative attention on social media hold her back.

Nina Davuluri, who was Miss New York, became the first contestant on Indian heritage to win to pageant.

Her win sparked several racist tweets, but she says it hasnt all been bad.

I received dozens of positive tweets and support from not only Indians, but Americans across the country, and from the world for that matter, Davuluri said.

I have always viewed Miss America as the girl next door, but the girl next door is evolving as the diversity in America evolves. Shes not the same person she was ten years ago.

She hopes her win will inspire young girls not to let stereotypes get in the way of their dreams.
