'911' timeline of Pullman Ave Shooting

Rochester, N.Y. In a press release Friday, city officials released a timeline of events regarding 911 response times to the Pullman Avenue shootings.

John Merklinger, Director of Emergency Communications, said the first call for shots heard came in at 10:27 a.m. The call was answered in 12 seconds and it took 50 seconds to process and determine an address for police.

According to Merklinger, within five minutes from the first phone call, 54 additional calls were made to the 911 Operations Center.

Records show that the first police vehicle arrived on scene at exactly 10:34 a.m., six minutes after the shots heard call and five minutes after the first person shot call.

Merklinger noted that 911 calls coming from cell phones are processed differently than land lines at the 911 center. Cell phones require an additional 45 seconds to process in order to locate the address of the phone. The press release stressed the importance to have the address of an emergency ready for the 911 operator.
