Charges could be filed in Rush fatal accident

Rush, N.Y. Monroe County Sheriffs Deputies tell 13 WHAM they are consulting with the Monroe County District Attorney's Office to decide if there should be charges in a freak accident that killed a driver in Rush Tuesday afternoon.

Monroe County Sheriffs Deputies say 16 foot long pieces of lumber being carried in a pickup truck flew off and went through the window of a car in the opposite lane, killing the driver.

The driver of that SUV, 66-year-old Bruce Crozier, of Rush, died at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck, 31-year-old Kevin Gunderson, of Springwater, told police the load of lumber was secured with a strap. Police are still investigating what happened and what charges Gunderson could face.

Miriam Teitsworth didn't see the accident but looked outside her son's house on the corner of Route 251 in Rush and saw the lumber all over the road and the pickup truck parked across the street.

Then she saw the small maroon SUV in a field off the road and later learned the driver was killed.

Teitsworth told 13 WHAM News: "It was a tragic and bizarre thing that happened here. "

Teitsworth said she is glad police are still investigating to learn what happened and why.
