Man steals USPS truck, package inside
Rochester, N.Y. - A 59-year-old United States Postal Service driver was held at gunpoint Saturday afternoon and forced to hand over his delivery truck.
While the truck and all its contents were stolen, it appears the suspect was only after one package in particular.
We wasnt expecting nothing, said Luis Abril.
Police told Abril the suspect stole a package that was addressed to his house.
Abril said he heard the mail truck pull up to his house just before noon Saturday. He parks right in front of the house, but the mail man never made it to his front door. The postman got robbed and I was shocked, like wow, Abril said.
According to the Rochester Police Department, the USPS worker was driving his normal delivery route when a car suddenly cut him off and blocked the truck. A man got out of the truck and at gunpoint, forced the letter carrier out of the USPS truck.
The carjacker then sped off in the truck, with bins of undelivered mail inside. According to RPD, the truck was found only a few blocks away. The suspect was gone and apparently, only one piece of mail was missing.
We wasnt expecting a package, I dont know how, why this address. Abril said he doesnt know what could have been in the package or why someone would go to such great lengths to steal it. Whoever did it is stupid, theyre going to face a lot of time, said Abril.
RPD and the US Postal Service are investigating, looking for both the suspect and the stolen package.
