Warren wins, not even close

Rochester, N.Y. City Council President Lovely Warren will be the Democratic Partys nominee in November.

The race wasn't even close.

Lovely Warren won by nearly 2,500 in a 58 to 42 percent margin.

"No one believed we could do it."  That's what people kept saying on Tuesday night at Lovely Warren's headquarters at the Zeppa Bistro.

Slowly as the results came in throughout the night, there were cheers and applause, and at a certain point, it became clear that Warren would win this Democratic primary.

She thanked her supporters and the political leaders who backed her. She made it clear that she never believe in the polls that had her losing the primary by a wide margin to incumbent mayor Tom Richards.

She said, I think it's the fact that I understand from two different perspectives. I understand that we need to build up our downtown but we have to focus on our city in our neighborhoods with our most challenged people. It's something that we have to start paying attention to, and I think that resonated with voters."

Warren said that Tom Richards did call to congratulate her.

She said that the work is not done yet. She said she will go back to campaigning for the November election. She will be up against Green Party Candidate Alex White and could be up against Tom Richards again if he decides to run on other party lines.
