Pretrial hearing held for Dawn Nguyen

Rochester, N.Y. - It is now up to a judge to decide whether Dawn Nguyens statements, phone calls, and text messages to police are admissible in court.

Nguyen is accused of lying on applications to buy guns that prosecutors said she gave to William Spengler. Spengler allegedly used the guns in a Christmas Eve ambush in Webster.

According to Nguyens attorney John Parrinello, in a suicide letter Spengler left at the scene, the gunman blamed Nguyens mother for what happened with the guns. In Spenglers words, Nguyen was merely a dupe who did not know what he planned to do with the weapons.

The contents of the three-page-letter have not been released.

Im sorry the firefighters died, Im sorry they got hurt, and Im sorry houses got burned down. The person responsible took law in his own hands, and I wish he was on trial, Parrinello said Monday.

The pre-trial hearing will resume next week to continue to decide what will be admissible in court.
